A former governor of Jigawa State, Senator Saminu Turaki has been arrested by agents of EFCC this afternoon.
The former Governor was picked up during the presentation of a book on Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari, the first regular combatant officer in the Nigerian Army, at the FTC.
Before his arrest, EFCC has declared Turaki wanted for failure to present himself for trial since 2011 on 36 counts corruption charge before the Federal High Court, Dutse, Jigawa.
The court issued a warrant directing the Inspector General of Police or his officers and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to arrest the former governor and bring him before the court.
Justice S. Yahuza gave the order of his arrest after Turaki failed to attend trial.
However, all attempts to execute the warrant failed as ex governor Turaki remained elusive.
On May 19, 2016 operatives of EFCC acting on a tip-off, stormed his home at 16 Denis Osadebey Street Asokoro, Abuja but he escaped.
Ex- governor Turaki faces multiple charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, money laundering, stealing, and misappropriation of public funds.
