Increasing unemployment rate is the reason I can’t sleep at night – Dangote

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Dangote Group’s Chairman has unveiled the reason why he is having sleepless nights. He revealed that the main reason why he is having trouble sleeping is because of Nigeria’s increasing unemployment rate. He further stated that it is not the extent of business ideas that comes in his mind that makes him awake at night but primarily because of the increasing unemployment rate of the country. He made this statement while some business directors from Lagos Business School had made a visit in Ibeju Lekki in Lagos where ha have his petrochemical projects and multi billion dollar refinery.

Dangote also said that this situation is a very serious matter and is not pleasing to the eyes and believed that it is their responsibility to find solutions to this problem. The latter also pointed out that the increase of the nation’s population is actually a blessing if only the young generation is utilize to drive growth instead it poverty is increasing together with the population.

In line with this, he also stressed out that there are more criminals in the society wherein there is an increasing poverty and lack of education. He pointed out that as the population grows, poverty also grows and it is a surprise to him that it is happening in the North.

The richest man in Africa said that it is not the government’s duty to create jobs and it is economies which are developed were not made by the government itself but it is the private sectors that will act as drivers when it comes to the development and growth of the nation.

Lastly, he associated unemployment to militancy and insurgency saying that criminality will develop in a nation where the government doesn’t stimulate entrepreneurs to create many jobs.
