A 35 -year-old man, Akeem Oladokun, was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment on Monday by an Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s’ Court for contempt of court.
The Court Magistrate, Mrs Mary Awodele, ordered that the convict be kept in prison due to the magnitude of the offence or to pay a N2, 000 fine as option.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rasak Olaiwola, explained to the court that the convict failed to appear in court to answer to theft charge.
He said the convict, who lives in Okefia within Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court, committed the offence on June 2.
He claimed that the accused failed to respond to invitations to appear in his case tagged: MOS/78c/2015, which involved theft.
Olayiwola said the offence contravened Section 133(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The convict however pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of contempt of court.
Counsel to the convict, Mr Najite Okobie, appealed to the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing the convict.
