It has been changed to the Maitama Sule University by the Kano state government.
The name change was effected in honor of the late statesman, Maitama Sule who recently passed on.
This was announced on Wednesday, July 5.
The Northwest University Kano which was founded in 2012 is owned by the Kano state government.
The temporary campus of the university is situated at the center of the city of Kano; while the main campus is located along Gwarzo Road off Kofar Kabuga, Kano. The late Alhaji Maitama Sule was a Nigerian politician, acclaimed orator and a diplomat.
In 1976, the deceased became the federal commissioner of public complaints, a position which made him the nation’s pioneer ombudsman. He died on Monday, July 3.
