Nine months ago, two students from the Osun State University in Osogbo were declared missing by the police. Alarms were raised after another 400-level student from the college of Microbiology disappeared on a Monday night.
Oluwafemi Shonibare was last seen around the Suzzy area in Oke Baale, at a private hostel. Friends of the victim told the correspondent that he was last seen at about 10pm that night. He was cooking and was said to have blurted out, abandoning the food. They thought he had gone out to buy something, or someone has called him on the phone, but when it took a long time, they got scared.
A female student from the university named Ayomide told the reporter that a group of students are planning to raise protests against the alarming cases of missing students. They added that they are no longer feeling safe, and that the school management and the concerned agencies must strengthen their policies when it comes to security. Ayomide also stated that a suspect named Alfa is in the police’ custody.
The victim’s colleagues were worried when Shonibare hadn’t answered the phone calls. They also thought of the two cases that happened barely nine months ago and was deeply alarmed with the similarity.
Gafar Shittu, the acting Registrar of the university has confirmed the situation over the telephone. It is considered as a mysterious case and the police have already transferred the case to the State of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
Samuel Eke and Robert Akinduro were last seen on the night of September 5, 2016, prior to a project defense. Another one named Rofiat Adebisi from Ipetu Ijesa Campus of UNIOSUN was abducted and found dead days later.
